about
I live in Georgia, the deep south. I see first hand the vestiges of an uncomfortable and embarrassing past most here want to downplay or forget. It is eerie to drive around and know of locations where people were lynched or that the KKK was active here a merely 30 years ago walking along the yearly Christmas parade. One cannot disassociate electronic music, house, jazz and blues from the Black experience in America. I would not be making music if it wasn’t for the contribution made by the many amazing the artists of color that have so inspired me. The current popular uprising against institutionalized oppression and racism is also inspiring.
Deep house, a musical genre deeply rooted in soul, jazz, gospel and electronic music is what moves my soul. This track is my contribution to the movement. It was recorded live using the Korg Volca Sample, the Korg Volca Bass, the Korg Volca FM and a 1968 sample by the amazing James Baldwin. His message resonates just as true today as it did over 50 years ago.
The track is free but if you choose to give proceeds made will be donated to Community Movement Builder (local organization that cares for community gardens in Atlanta’s Pittsburgh neighborhood, works to create farmers markets in black communities and end police violence).
